Billy Porter wants us to wear masks and drink with him.
In the ultimate quest for inner beauty and outer radiance, Marie Claire asked some of her favorite trailblazers to share their secrets for finding balance in their busy lives. Featured in Beauty Inside & Out.
"I ride my bike a lot, sit on the beach, meditate, and work out. My husband and I just bought a house on Long Island so I can get in touch with my natural side," Billy Porter said by phone in between filming the highly anticipated third season of "Pose" (opens in new tab). 'I'm a city kid and I've never owned real estate before, so all of this has been really therapeutic. Porter has spent his time under house arrest quietly writing his memoir and being a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and voting." The differences I feel and the differences in the way I go through life are profound. "As evidenced by his latest partnership with LG Homestyle (open in new tab) along with 2 Chainz, Alex Rodriguez, Buddy Winkle, and others, he is also known for his enjoyment of good cocktails He is also known for his delicious cocktails. The Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award-winning actor and singer shares some feel-good insights now that he's back on a rigorous shooting schedule.
Power Start. 'First, I eat a lot. I'm diabetic. My diet is mostly vegetables. I eat oatmeal with fruit and cinnamon, sweetened with agave, every day. And I drink Nespresso (opens in new tab) coffee. I drink a lot of coffee. It's not the cheapest coffee, but it's really good."
Molton Brown bath and shower gel (opens in new tab): "Molton Brown soap is what my husband and I like best. It smells beautiful and wonderful. Now that I'm in this house, I can tell you what it smells like. I love Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel, Tobacco Absolute, and Fiery Pink Pepper. I also have Russian Leather."
Baxter of California Ash Candle (opens in new tab): Baxter of California has a series of candles made with ash. Smoky, spicy, earthy and woody. It's not a food or cinnamon scent. It's a really masculine and expensive scent. I don't really care about masculinity, but sometimes I just want to act like a man. Sometimes. My other favorite is Michael Aram candles (opens in new tab)."
Tara Brach Meditation (opens in new tab): "Tara Brach is someone I have reached through recommendations or through therapy. I do it in the morning, at noon, or whenever I have time."
Binge TV: "I'm an artist, I work in film and television, I'm becoming a content creator, and I'm trying to move in that direction, so at night I calm myself by watching TV. I'm not really into reality shows, but I do binge watch "Chef's Table" (opens in new tab) and documentaries, and I found a new series on Hulu (opens in new tab) called "Woke" that was very comforting, It was powerful. It's nice to have time to just check it out and see what's out there."
All about Kiehl's: Kiehl's has been my go-to for 30 years. My favorite (body) lotion is Creme de Corps (open in new tab). I love that thickening. Sometimes I wear a mask at night, especially during filming, to make my skin look good on screen. The Ginger Leaf and Hibiscus mask (opens in new tab) is the best. Vital Skin Strength Serum (opens in new tab) is also good. Midnight Recovery Concentrate (opens in new tab) is also good. [The glamour team] likes me. Yes, I'm going to wash my face before I come here, so I might as well do it right."
Glossier Priming Moisturizer (opens in new tab):
Glossier Priming Moisturizer (opens in new tab): "Really rich. That's why I like creme de corps. Blacks moisturize. I moisturize from birth; you can't start at 45. You have to start moisturizing from birth. Then your skin will stay soft and supple. Starting young keeps the skin tight and firm."
La Prairie Cellular Radiance Cream (opens in new tab): "Really great. It's Swiss made and looks expensive. Expensive though. I also use the eye cream (opens in new tab). It smells great too."
Pour a wedge of lime into a lowball glass and rim with tagine seasoning. Place a large piece of craft ice cream (opens in a new tab) in the glass and set aside.
Fill a martini shaker with ice, 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice, 3/4 ounce Cointreau (a diabetic porter does not add Cointreau), and 1/2 to 3/4 ounce jalapeno agave ("it doesn't raise blood sugar levels," he says), Adjust to desired sweetness. Cap, shake well, and pour into an ice bowl. Garnish with a twist of lime zest and enjoy.
