What I Wear on Repeat: Barbour jacket by Elmis Wax
In this bi-weekly series, our editors will show you items that are versatile, chic, comfortable, and worn over and over again, whether it's a basic white T-shirt or an ultra-trendy jumpsuit. Get yourself (and your credit card) ready for guilt-free shopping.
Like Barbour, I'm a stereotypical Brit; unlike Barbour, I'm not the cool, trend-setting kind of Brit, but the tea-spilling kind, so I need clothes that are durable, reliable, and stain-resistant. Contrary to popular opinion and TV shows, not everyone in my home country has a Barbour (although the royal family all do (opens in new tab)), and I didn't get my first Barbour until I was in my 20s and sick of New York winters. (I brought a fleece jacket that had survived two London winters to move to New York. It was useless.)
The photos presented here were taken on a mild fall day. This is my story, because I call the shots, but don't be fooled. On those sleeting, snowy, rainy, icy New York days (I don't take pictures of myself because I don't want to remember them and also because I look like crap), my Barbour is the only thing that keeps me from breaking down and getting on a plane! ... (I don't go to London. London would be less miserable, but still London. I would go to the Bahamas.)
Now that I've spent enough time whining about my adopted country, let me count how much I love Barbour Elmis Wax.
I love the faux fur collar that fits over my ears and the belt that magically makes me look neat when attending actual events. The classic quilting on the inside reminds me of home and makes me feel like I'm in The Crown. (Fun fact: Barbour asked the Queen if they could replace her battered, decades-old Barbour for free, but she refused because she was so attached to it.) (Open in new tab) I love the waxed finish that stands up to rain, sleet and snow. I especially like the secret zipper where I can keep a spare $20 in case I inevitably lose my credit card. Unlike the edgy model in this photo, I don't own a jodhpurs jacket. This jacket has me believing.
If you're interested in pretending you're on the set of The Crown and/or want to stay warm and dry in whatever weather you're enduring right now, may I recommend something else from Barbour: [11
