Selena Gomez's 30-second Zoom Beauty Hack
Welcome to Beauty Around the Clock, Marie Claire's weekly peek into the daily lives of the most influential women in their industries. How do these women manage to get through the day's work?
It's hard to argue with the influence of Selena Gomez (opens in new tab). The 28-year-old from Grand Prairie, Texas, has 195 million Instagram followers (opens in new tab) (a few million more than KKW and Beyonce). So when she announced her latest project, Rare Beauty (opens in new tab), on Instagram in February, the brand, which "focuses on community, being there for each other and not trying to be perfect," gained over 1 million followers ahead of its September launch It was no surprise that the brand had amassed more than 1 million followers prior to its September launch (it now has more than 2.1 million). Here, Gomez shares a day in her life.
When I'm working on a film, my call time can be very fast. When I'm composing or recording, I usually don't start until the evening, so I can sleep late. The first thing I always do is drink a huge glass of water.
I never spend much time getting ready unless I'm working or having a makeup artist help me. Makeup artists (opens in new tab) are notorious for driving me crazy because they always want more time than I give them. As for skin care, I keep it pretty simple with a good moisturizer (opens in new tab) and sunscreen (opens in new tab).
It's big and messy. But I kind of like it.
Iced coffee or green tea.
I try not to worry too much, just go on [Zoom calls] and try not to overthink things. If anything, I wake up a bit by putting on Rare Beauty with Gratitude Lip Balm (opens in new tab) or Soft Pinch Liquid Blush (opens in new tab) on my cheeks. Both can be done in 30 seconds.
Lately I've been loving strong brows. Rare Beauty's Brow Harmony Pencil and Gel (opens in new tab) is great because it's a double-ended type, so you can control how thick you want them. I always use Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer (opens in new tab) to make myself look brighter. And I've been practicing with liquid liner and I've gotten really good with Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner (opens in a new tab). It glides on so easily and doesn't drag or tug on my eyelids. Also, bright lips.
Surround yourself with people you can learn from.
I don't like working out, but I watch workout videos on YouTube.
Yes, ...... I haven't really done anything this year. But if I already have something on, it won't take me more than 10-15 minutes to add to it. I'll wear a liquid liner and a bright lip (Inspire's Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream (opens in new tab) is my go-to red). And actually, I made our Blot & Glow Touch-Up Kit (opens in new tab) from a night out with friends. As the night went on, we just added more powder to our faces and ended up looking a little cakey. This little kit is about the size of an iPhone and contains a cute blotting paper and a puff of radiant powder. My favorite.
Depends on your mood. They range from Bob Dylan to Kid Cudi, from Kacey Musgraves to Summer Walker.
I love taking a bath at night.
[I usually go to bed at midnight. The last thing I do is give my two dogs a kiss and a hug and watch an episode of "Friends" (opens in new tab) or "Will & Grace" (opens in new tab).
