What I Wear on Repeat: Cropped cashmere sweater by Everlane
In this bi-weekly series, our editors will show you items that are versatile, chic, comfortable, and worn over and over again, whether it's a basic white T-shirt or an ultra-trendy jumpsuit. Get yourself (and your credit card) ready for guilt-free shopping.
A peek into my closet reveals not much color. Cream, black and gray. Lots of navy, too. But what about yellow and orange? I can't say I have items in either shade. (Unless, of course, you're talking about breton stripes, but that's just alternating between the two colors I already wear.)
I'm not a fashion risk-taker, I wish I was, but I always waste money when I step outside my comfort zone. When I reach for another white button down, the item is waiting for me unworn. I feel more like myself and feel better in neutral clothing.
That's why I love this bright red sweater. It's neutral, yet not boring. This Everlane piece is bold, but goes with almost every bottom I own. I can build a quick outfit around it and feel confident that it will stand out in a good way.
The chili red hue is just one of the many great things about this top. The cropped, boxy cut is modern and flattering to my rectangular figure. Pair it with high-waisted jeans or a pencil skirt and it looks like I have a waist like those jeans. It's a regular in my casual weekend wardrobe, perfect for post-brunch errands (pre-Covid, of course) and office wear (also pre-Covid, but cozy enough for WFH).
Speaking of cozy... 100 percent cashmere. Who doesn't like cashmere (open in new tab)? (And it's from Everlane, so it's affordable, too.) This top is so soft and comfy, you'll want to curl up on the couch and doze off. (Forget the nap dress (opens in new tab), how about a nap sweater?) It's warm enough for winter, but from October through April you'll find me wearing this versatile, transitional item.
Sadly, Everlane does not offer this style in the shade of red that stole my heart this season. However, I can feel you love some similar sweaters (boxy or bright or both!) I pulled the following.
