Black leggings attire for the rest of the winter
My best friend asked me if leggings were still in style. I said yes to her. But I made it clear that the styling of leggings has changed since the early days of the Aughts, when tunic shirts cinched with large wide belts were worn over leggings. While I have gladly parted with my tunic shirts and belts, my love for leggings (opens in new tab) has not changed. (Personally, I prefer the leather and faux leather options (open in new tab), but fleece-lined leggings are a lifesaver (open in new tab) when spending an hour at the dog park in 20-degree temperatures.)
As the street style stars have proven, leggings are every fashion girl's wardrobe. Whether you're going to the grocery store or the office, there's no shame in wearing leggings. All you need to elevate these bottoms and make them look cool are a few key styling pieces, from a blazer to a statement bag. Get inspired to dress up your black leggings.
Leggings are a basic piece. Add a handbag and sneakers and you'll look "ready to show your face at brunch" instead of "going to watch Netflix all day." Oversized sweaters and jackets that cover up to the hips are perfect for winter layering.
To hide the VPL (visible panty line) under leggings, throw on a long cardigan or coat. This way, you can go out in public without having to order seamless underwear. Complete the relaxed look with a black top and casual sneakers.
If you stick to workout leggings, you might want to wear a matching top for the perfect athleisure package. (Whether or not you actually work out as much as your favorite YouTube fitness vlogger is another story.) This outfit can be used for any everyday task, from shopping at the local grocery store to working at your desk during WFH. If you need to do a Zoom video call with a coworker, cover the crop top portion with a cute sweater.
White button-downs can be too formal, so I'm a fan of the brand's remix of this classic. Look for shirts that are asymmetrical or have unusual details. And for the ultimate mix of stiff and casual-cool look, pair it with leather leggings.
On days when you don't want to dress up, simply pair leggings with a turtleneck and a pullover. This carefree look is simple and comfortable and works for everyone, regardless of your fashion preferences.
When you need another layer of warmth, leggings are the way to go. This street style star rocks her bottoms with a midi dress and a silver crop-top puffer vest. Cool little sunglasses and black heels give her outfit a fashionable spin.
At the office, she loves to wear leggings with an oversized blazer and combat boots. Leggings are more comfortable than jeans when sitting for eight hours, whether in the office or on the couch at WFH. This outfit is presentable and fashionable, yet cozy.
