Jill Biden shines in blue Alexandra O'Neill on Inauguration Day
After a rocky few months of democracy in the United States, today at noon Joe Biden will be sworn in as President-elect and Dr. Jill Biden will officially become First Lady. Dressed in an ocean blue tweed blazer and matching silk mask by New York-based designer Alexandra O'Neill, founder and creative director of Markarian, Biden ushered in a new era of American politics (in new tab (opens in new tab). The first lady-elect followed Michelle Obama (opens in new tab) in endorsing the up-and-coming American designer.
Markarian stated in a press release: "Blue means trust, confidence, and stability.
Dr. Jill Biden is no stranger to the power of dress. In then-President-elect Joe Biden's victory speech, the First Lady wore a short-sleeved Oscar de la Renta dress with floral embroidery (new tab to opens in new tab). By casually invoking them, Biden was wearing the fabric of past first ladies. Her inaugural ensemble was no less significant.
