Today's historic presidential inauguration heralded a new era for the country and was an iconic moment in fashion as more women than ever took the White House. The choice to wear one color from head to toe not only flatter the silhouette, it is simple and straightforward. Also, according to O'Neill, by continuing to wear a familiar suit from the political and world stage, she may be conscious of the fact that men have historically dominated public service roles. She tells BAZAAR.com exclusively, "It's a classic way of dressing, a way of doing things, kind of like an old school suit ensemble." On her insistence on a tonal look when designing for the First Lady, O'Neill added, "I've always been a fan of the classic look, and I think it's a great way to showcase the style of the First Lady. I wanted to create something that was really classic and would stand the test of time."

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden chose marine blue to emulate the signature Democratic Party shade, while Markarian designer Alexandra O'Neill noted that it signified "trust, confidence, and stability."
