Timothée Chalamet plays Edward Scissorhands' son in Cadillac's Super Bowl ad.

Timothée Chalamet plays Edward Scissorhands' son in Cadillac's new Super Bowl commercial. It is truly perfect casting. The ad is a riff on Tim Burton's 1990 cult classic film, and Winona Ryder, who played Johnny Depp's love interest in the original film, also has a new role as Edward Jr.'s mother.

In the ad, Scissorhands, played by Chalamet, struggles with many of the same hardships as his father. Life, it seems, is not so easy for those with scissors in their hands. Scissorhands spends all day inadvertently poking holes in something. His boss at the salad shop is angry that he has turned someone's order into a sculpture. Such is the life of a boy with scissors in his hands.

Things start to turn around when Ryder notices that his son is happily playing a VR driving game. Seeing that her son was able to maneuver the car without harming it, Ryder, being the caring mother that she is, gave her son a Cadillac Lyric with an automatic driving mode. Edward Scissorhands is a movie that I adored growing up, and the opportunity to step into that world was a dream come true."

"I was so excited to be a part of this project," she said.

There could be no one better suited to play the down-to-earth, grumpy character who, over the years, has become a cultural icon for outcasts around the world. Watch the commercial above and see for yourself.
