For those with lascivious eyes, (open in new tab) achieving long-lasting, dramatic lashes can be a major struggle. Mascara is the go-to product for easily amplifying lashes, but for those without a ton of eyelid space, it can mean smudges and streaks. The trick is not to avoid eye makeup, but to find the right products and techniques for your eye shape. Makeup artist Vincent Oquendo (opens in new tab), whose clients include Camila Mendes, Dove Cameron, and Karlie Kloss, shares his professional insights on finding the right mascara and some expert tips for brightening eyes.

"The biggest struggle for hooded eyes is finding something that doesn't smudge all around," says Oquendo. The solution is to find a product that simply won't smudge, also known as waterproof mascara.

If you're not comfortable with waterproof, it's important to avoid creamy eyeshadows that break up lash product." I would avoid shiny or creamy eyeshadows that don't set," says Oquendo." They cause your mascara to melt due to the hooded eye shape and can therefore transfer mascara to your crease and under-eye area quite easily."

If investing in eye brightening products isn't letting mascara achieve the dramatic lashes of your dreams, it may be time for an accessory. Says Oquendo, "I've found that properly curling my lashes dramatically brightens my eyes." For a virtual night out, fake lashes are perfect. I also recommend adding false lashes to the outer corners of the eyes."

This subtle boost really opens up the eyes and creates a doe-eyed look. And to brighten your look overall, "Lumify redness reliever eye drops (opens in new tab) helps to reduce redness and play up the natural beauty of your eyes, no matter of shape, size or color."
