24 hours with Camila Mendes of Riverdale
Welcome to Beauty Around the Clock, Marie Claire's weekly peek into the daily lives of the most influential women in their industries. How do these women manage to get through the day's work?
You've seen her in Riverdale as the endlessly chic Veronica Lodge. Whether she's posting cute fashion photos or giving her nearly 26 million followers a glimpse of her puppy, Mendes embodies the beauty of both a fresh face and full glamour. The 26-year-old actress talks perfume, easy self-care tips, and fun names for her get-ready playlist.
As you can imagine in the film industry, my schedule is very erratic. Ideally, I get up at 7:45 to work out. The first thing I do is go straight to the espresso machine to make myself a latte. Then I journal for five minutes.
Skin care is something I am very consistent about. I try to give my skin as much time as possible to breathe before I go to work. I'm very loyal to my products and like to use them consistently. I get pretty puffy around my eyes in the morning, especially if I've cried on set or had an emotional scene the day before.
My favorite self-care ritual is to journal for five minutes over coffee. It is a very manageable self-care routine. On days when I have more time, I like to take a bath, add a LUSH bath bomb, and listen to music.
I have a playlist for getting ready called "Lips to Lids. I love coming up with titles for my playlists. If I fall in love with an album, I'll play it obsessively for a long, long time until I get sick of it and don't want to listen to it anymore. Right now, I'm obsessed with O'Crew. She has an album called "Galore" that is really good. Also, Kari Uchis' album "Sin Miedo". That whole album has a great vibe, especially for getting ready.
I take my Burt's Bees chapstick (opens in new tab) with me everywhere. It's always in my makeup bag on set. They give it to me before I apply lipstick.
I have a daytime and nighttime scent. For just errands, it's Marc Jacobs Daisy (opens in new tab), which I've been using since I was 16. For night, I use Arizona by Proenza Scourer (opens in new tab).
Oribe's Matte Wave Texture Lotion (opens in new tab) was recommended to me by my hairstylist at Riverdale and I recently found it. It took years for my keratin-infused hair to grow out. I'm so glad that's gone now. My hairstylist said, "You should use it right after you get out of the shower and tuck it into your hair. It makes the curls more defined and looks better. I really like it. I think it's definitely a worthwhile investment for anyone with wavy or curly hair.
At the end of the day, I journal for five minutes. It's five minutes before I go to bed. My bedtime varies. I always aim for midnight. It's really hard to go to bed any earlier than that. I think it's because of the movie industry. My female co-stars go to bed super early. At 10 p.m., they say, "I'm going to bed. Good night. I'm like, "What, how do you do that?" I'm like. I can't
