Forehead Wrinkle Elimination 101: A Dermatologist's Guide
The world is stressful enough without worrying about the signs of aging. (opens in new tab) But somehow, even with the amount of anxiety I feel on a daily basis, I still find time to stare dubiously at my forehead. It will be a few more years before I make friends (opens in new tab) with the dermatologist who gives me Botox injections, but a prominent line has appeared on my forehead, and it is not going away. My theory is that my eyebrows are too expressive: every time I make an unbelievable face, i.e., every 30 seconds, my eyebrows pop up above my forehead and the crease is permanent. Now that I have bangs (opens in new tab), this wrinkle is hidden from the world, but I know it's still there underneath.
But if you look at your forehead, wrinkled or smooth as a baby, and it doesn't stress you out, I must tell you to go on as you were. No one should feel pressured to delay or undo the signs of aging, just as no one looking for a solution should be labeled vain. Whether the action you take is to live naturally or to yearn for injectable drugs, the bottom line is that no one should feel shame.
The anti-aging market can be difficult to traverse for those who wish to eliminate forehead wrinkles. That's why we've invited Dr. Karan Lal (opens in new tab), an adult, pediatric, and cosmetic dermatologist (and facial genius), to serve as our guide. If you want to see his qualities, just stalk his Instagram and look at the smoothest forehead you've ever encountered. He answers all the questions we have about how to eliminate forehead wrinkles from our lives.
"Forehead wrinkles are complex," says Dr. Lal. 'Some people have stronger, more active muscles, which are hereditary and show signs of wrinkling early on, while others develop wrinkles over time as they age.'
So for someone like me, who scrunches up my face every time I feel uplifted, wrinkles develop faster than my unsociable classmates. But that's not something I try to counteract. Says Dr. Lull, "I once worked in an office where the women in the clinic wouldn't smile or laugh in order to delay Botox, but that's impractical and defeats the purpose of life."
Wear the right prescription glasses
Preventive measures to avoid deep wrinkles can help you stay in the dermatologist's office a little longer. A common precursor to forehead wrinkles is actually eye problems, Dr. Lal says. 'If you need glasses or contacts, wear them,' he says. If you have vision problems, a proactive visit to an ophthalmologist can help prevent excessive squinting that can exacerbate or cause forehead wrinkles.
Prevent Sunburn
Preventing sun damage by applying a strong SPF can also help your skin glow younger longer. 'Always apply sunscreen every day. Doing so will keep your skin tone even and reduce the appearance of things like lines and shadows."
Preventive Botox
However, even with all of these measures, "a combination of sun damage, genes, and vision changes can make you more susceptible to developing them," says Dr. Lal. Preventive Botox is another way to treat the skin before wrinkles form. Botulinum toxin is a wonderful way to prevent and treat forehead wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is a great way to prevent and treat forehead wrinkles, but once deep wrinkles form, it can be difficult to completely erase them."
Are there non-invasive procedures to treat forehead wrinkles? There are no creams that will erase wrinkles," Dr. Lal says ruefully. 'There are creams that can make wrinkles less noticeable, but avoid extreme claims. "
Laser or light energy based devices
If you want to avoid needles, consider other in-office treatments. Laser and light energy devices can be helpful. But they don't equal the magic of [injectable] neurotoxins." [PDO Thread Lift
As a more intensive procedure, "PDO threads are another invasive in-office treatment that can be used to lift the forehead and treat those wrinkles," says Dr. Lal.
Botox
For those who already have deeply etched forehead wrinkles, Dr. Lal recommends Botox treatment. The pros of botulinum toxin are that it is safe, easy, fast, and has no downtime. On the flip side, "cons include the possibility of bruising, the need for multiple treatments, and the fact that some drugs are resistant and lose their effectiveness over time."
Overall, we can absolutely take measures to reduce and prevent forehead wrinkles. But at the same time, we are human beings. Our bodies age naturally, and there is no way to completely erase the signs. Everyone gets forehead wrinkles. They are inevitable. So let's love our wrinkles. Even if we show our love by getting Botox every once in a while.
