Who killed Sarah? The filming location is as gorgeous as the show itself.

Netflix's hit thriller "Who Killed Sara?" (also known as "¿Quién mató a Sara?") premiered on March 24 and quickly rose to the number two spot on Netflix's Top 10. The series follows Alex Guzman's (open in new tab) journey of revenge as he investigates the death of his falsely convicted sister Sara; after 18 years in prison, Alex follows the Lazcano family, a powerful family that he suspects was involved in Sara's death. The show engages the viewer with a slow-burning plot that leaves more questions than answers as to who in the Lascano family was involved in Sarah's death. While the action is on, viewers are also dazzled by the gorgeous setting, which features several luxurious hotels, clubs, and resorts.

"Who Killed Sara" is a Mexican production and was filmed in actual locations throughout Mexico, including the capital Mexico City, beach towns, and Acapulco. Viewers can trace the plot of "Who Killed Sara?" through many of the filming locations, including glitzy hotels, casinos, and an infamous lake (or should I say crime scene).

According to a Netflix representative who spoke with Decider (opens in new tab), the majority of the series was filmed in Mexico City. It makes sense that the wealthy Lazcano family would base themselves in the country's capital and power center, and the show includes aerial shots showing the winding city streets and skyscrapers.

Although most of the indoor scenes were shot on private property, the program remained true to the lifestyle of Mexico City's wealthy. If you want to party like the Lazcano's, the city has many famous hotels and clubs and over 300 casinos. And for streaming enthusiasts: Mexico City is also the location of Netflix's Latin American headquarters.

The show features several flashbacks to the lakeside the weekend Sara died as Alex unravels the details of Sara's parasailing accident. These scenes were filmed at Lake Abandalo in Valle de Bravo, a town two hours west of Mexico City.

According to Architectural Digest magazine (opens in new tab), Valle de Bravo is a haven for Mexico City's elite residents, complete with art galleries, gourmet restaurants, and trendy clubs. There is even the option of paragliding over the sparkling lake.

The series includes scenes of Mr. and Mrs. Lazcano frequenting the luxurious beach resort. According to Cinemaholic (opens in new tab), some of these scenes may have been filmed in the coastal city of Acapulco, the largest beach resort city in Mexico. Historically a must-see tourist destination, Acapulco has been affected by cartel activity in recent years, but crime is on the decline and tourism is increasing. The city is the host of the Mexican reality TV series Acapulco Shores, which will premiere its eighth season in April.
