Read MoreThe second season of Netflix's reality show "The Circle" premiered on April 14, 2021, with a handful of players moving into an isolated apartment (opens in new tab) to become the most popular player and win $100,000, The story is about competing through a voice-activated platform. Players are given the choice of playing the game as themselves or fishing for other players with fake IDs. One of the players who chose the first option, Courtney Revolution, also known as Courtney Linssen, is a 28-year-old entertainment host and digital creator from L.A. So what do we know about Courtney and how he came to join The Circle?
Courtney is a self-described "cute little sunflower. Unless it cost $100,000". According to his Instagram, @courtneyrevolution (opens in new tab), Courtney is an "entertainment and podcast host" and "digital creator." Courtney has found her passion for entertainment on YouTube and has a lot of experience in engaging new people. In an interview with Voyage LA (opens in new tab), Courtney has a special knack for talking to strangers during her internship at Disney World "In fact, I had a terrible time in food service," Courtney said. He said, "In fact, I was terrible in food service, but my gift for talking basically saved me from being fired."
After earning his degree, Courtney left his hometown and headed to L.A., where he worked and hustled at Panera Bread until he launched his career as an entertainment host. Courtney said her path was "as smooth as a Nestle's Crunch Bar," and that as a black gay man, she did not get opportunities as often as white gay men.
Courtney has extensive experience in the digital media world. After appearing as a correspondent on the celebrity channel HollyScoop (opens in new tab), Courtney launched her own YouTube channel (opens in new tab) to cover celebrity and entertainment news and react to new music and music video releases Her live YouTube show, "The Green Chair Chats," recently celebrated its first anniversary, and other than a gap of a few months (perhaps a busy period with "The Circle"), she has been uploading almost daily.
Courtney also co-hosts the podcast "Overheard in the Pantry" (opens in new tab), where she and co-host Phylesha Hiers discuss "celebrity culture, happenings in the YouTube community, and more." He has also recently posted a Durex advertisement on his Instagram page, and is already practicing for sponsorship opportunities that will come after "The Circle."
Spoilers for an episode of The Circle currently on Netflix. Courtney plays mostly herself in The Circle, but has changed her profession. Instead of appearing as a digital content creator, she appears as a barista. He said he changed his profession so that the players would not think he was "nosy." According to his profile, "I am a coffee hero. I love to laugh and live loud and proud. My family is my everything. I can't wait to make new friends and most importantly be your cup of joe. #WhenInDoubtTwerkItOut."
In the intro to the show, Courtney describes her strategy. He says, "I'm going to be very friendly, and when push comes to shove, I'm going to be the little chihuahua that bites you in the face." When the game begins, Courtney is charming from the start and concentrates on creating allies among the contestants.
Courtney had a solid start, but things don't go his way as his two strongest allies, Bryant and Savannah, are the first two contestants to be blocked from the circle. But at the end of episode 4, everything changes when Savannah chooses Courtney as the deserving winner; when the two meet (showing genuine friendship while bonding over messing up), Savannah tells Courtney that fellow contestant Terririsha sees him as a threat, and in the first round he tells her that he tried to eliminate her in the first round. The two allies come up with a hit list that Courtney should target. It consists of Telisha and "Emily (open in new tab)" who helped Telisha over Savannah.
After Savannah leaves, Courtney has the biggest advantage of any contestant in The Circle US. She was invited to the Inner Circle, a secret room within The Circle. With this power, Courtney gets a chance to anonymously talk to two new Circle players as the Joker and let them know what has been happening in the game so far.According to Entertainment Weekly (opens in new tab), the Inner Circle is the international version of The Circle, and is an entirely new feature not introduced in the international version of The Circle. Courtney will use her power as the Joker to manipulate Telisha and Chloe behind their backs and make River, aka Lee, an influencer. She also solidifies her alliance with River and turns Chloe against Emily (although the failed makeover challenge does a lot of work for Emily).
By the third week of the episode, Courtney and River are the strongest alliance in the game, promptly sending Khat home and taking control after she makes the mistake of trusting them and bad-mouthing Chloe. Trevor and Mitchell's rival alliance tries to get Chloe on their side to defeat Courtney and River, but the secret super-influencer vote rallies to Lee, and Lee eliminates Mitchell. Courtney says she'll use it to take care of her father-in-law, who is battling stage 3 kidney disease, and earns a $100,000 finalist spot; the May 5 finale will reveal whether the game's savvy players have done enough to win it all.
