Daily Harvest founder Rachelle Drori's work clothes
It's hard to believe that Rachelle Drori, founder and CEO of the hugely popular food subscription company Daily Harvest, used to live off the stale birthday cake and trail mix left in the pantry of her office building. Says Drori, 38, "I'd go from one meeting to the next feeling like crap." After all, the best business ideas often come from the biggest gaps in the market. Drori found that big gap: the lack of healthy, convenient food. There was no healthy, convenient food," she says."
When she began researching her options, she was struck by the state of the American food system. Unable to find a solution that met all of the criteria: quick, easy, delicious, and sustainable, she launched Daily Harvest in 2015. Since then, this plant-based sustainable food subscription and delivery service has become a go-to for busy people. Since its launch, Daily Harvest has grown to a $250 million company with a 2020 revenue base and has raised over $43 million in funding, according to Forbes Magazine. (Open in new tab)
When the pandemic began, everyone panicked to stock their freezers and have food delivered. Daily Harvest didn't let up: the company doubled its team over the past year and launched new products such as a plant-based alternative milk called Mylk and vegan ice cream.
With their busy lives, dolori need styles that are as easy yet flavorful as the food they cook. Here's what she wears to work, including a kitschy-cool fruit-patterned sweater. (7]
I'm not glamorous. Every morning I'm in full survival mode. I have two boys, ages 4 and 6. They wake up every morning before the sun comes up. I am very thankful that my husband is a morning person because I am not a morning person. Usually by 6 a.m. we are up and running as fast as we can.
We prepare breakfast for the kids the night before. I can't live without matcha in the morning.
In the hour before the kids go to school, we focus on being there as much as possible, both individually and zooming around. It's not always easy because there are always emails sent the night before. With email, Slack, and social media, distractions are constant. But I try to be truly present for my children. My husband and I tag team to get the kids dressed, fed, and ready for school. And when I turn to myself, I usually get dressed while sipping my second cup of matcha tea of the day.
I have adapted over the past, maybe two years, and this year it has helped a lot. I wear clothes I can workout in all day. I can't schedule a workout. As long as I'm wearing a sports bra and clothes that allow me to sweat a little, I can get a little workout on the spin bike when I get a break, like when a meeting gets cancelled.
I wear black t-shirts a lot. They look good on zoom and are simple. Everlane t-shirts are my favorite. Sometimes I wear a sweatshirt from a brand called The Great. (open in new tab) The sweatshirts here are really good. Like I said, I always wear a sports bra. I've given up on everything else. I also love [comfortable brand] Pangaia (opens in new tab).
For bottoms, I love Nike cropped sweatpants. I also have some James Perse pants that are like half sweatpants and half hard pants.
I tend to wear monochromatic outfits. It's easier to live that way. I often wear classic pieces and solid colors. Also, as I mentioned earlier, I am particular about what is comfortable to wear. I also try to find clothes made from sustainable materials.
I have a quirky side to me, I love anything with fruits and vegetables on it. It might be a little embarrassing or cheesy, but I don't care because it's cute. I am obsessed with Farm Rio. I wear simple monochromatic outfits and then I wear [fruit-patterned] items like slides or Farm Rio jackets with fruit embroidered on them. One of my favorite sweaters has strawberries on it. I may or may not have also made plant milk costumes.
I always wear a black t-shirt or sweater; I really like Theory's black cashmere cardigan, and Naadam (opens in new tab) has some really nice basics with a sustainable aspect. It brings a bit of texture to the look.
Zero jewelry. Even the wedding band was substituted with this little wire from Etsy. But I do wear a long, colorful beaded necklace [sometimes].
Simple, monochromatic, effortless. But also quirky at times. [4, but forgive me.]
I have a few: a cashmere sweater from Chinty & Parker. It's a black sweater with strawberries printed on it. It always looks good with black pants. This dress is from Zimmerman. I also have a dress from A.L.C. (open in new tab) that I wear when I speak on panels.
Shirt dress.
It's hard to feel confident when you don't feel put together or look good. Having style will help you feel good about your day. Hopefully, you have one less thing to worry about. Style is an expression of who you are and a way to let someone know who you are and what you stand for through visual cues.
