Thirty years into this friendship, it seems almost impossible to know anything new about Friends. But during HBO Max's highly publicized reunion (open in new tab), the cast, creators, and regular guest stars dug deep to share personal, emotional, surprising, and sweet anecdotes and revelations about the beloved sitcom. Here's everything we learned from the Friends reunion, from the two co-stars' mutual infatuation to which cast members wrote lines on the set furniture.

The wooden beam in Monica's apartment that disappeared in the first few episodes was no mistake. They were deliberately removed because they got in the way during filming.

Courteney Cox wrote her lines at the dining room table in her apartment. Matt LeBlanc even pranked her by erasing it before the scene.

Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer had a real crush on each other (opens in new tab)... And everyone in the cast easily sensed it.

LeBlanc dislocated his shoulder during the filming of "Where No One Has Gone Before" when he tripped over a coffee table while lunging for a chair. LeBlanc believes this was caused by the cast's failure to "huddle" before filming.

The name Chandler was taken from a friend of co-creator Marta Kaufman (open in new tab), and the entire show is based on Kaufman and David Crane's real life in New York in their 20s.

It is widely known that the women in the cast ate lunch together every day. For the first few years, however, the entire cast ate lunch together every day (and on weekends) and watched every episode together. Matthew Perry called the women "inseparable."

Cox's favorite episode was "The One With the Embryos."

Reese Witherspoon, who guest starred as Rachel's sister, loved when LeBlanc asked her character, "How you doin'? " and loved it.

Aniston remembers exactly what the girls wore for their first table read.

Schwimmer had quit television before joining the cast of Friends, and Ross was written for his role.

The actor who played "Fake Joey" (Carl) in "The One With the Unagi" was also strongly considered to actually play Joey instead of LeBlanc.

The night before his audition for "Friends," LeBlanc passed out drunk and hit his face on the toilet, badly injuring his nose. He told the truth about what happened to him during the audition and still got the job.

When cast, Cox strongly insisted that she was Monica, even though she was being eyed for the role of Rachel.

Rachel was the last character cast, because the creators did not want her to be unlikable. However, the producers felt that Aniston brought "warmth and sincerity" to the role.

Sadly, no one but Aniston liked working with Marcel the monkey. Schwimmer especially disliked the primate's unpredictable (and gross) behavior.

Lisa Kudlow and Perry did not see it, but Aniston, LeBlanc, and Cox all did. Schwimmer has been reviewing it for the past year, since his daughter just started binge reading it.

Janice's voice (and laugh) is fake. Actress Maggie Wheeler created it for her character, who is described as a "fast-talking New Yorker."

Kudrow would never consider doing a movie or other iteration of "Friends" because he does not want to see the characters' happy endings "unravel."

Aniston believes that Rachel and Ross eventually got married. Cox thinks Monica is running the PTA, and LeBlanc thinks Joey is opening a sandwich shop. Kudlow believes that Phoebe will have a child with Mike, live in Connecticut, and help run their school's arts and music program.
