Celebrity stylist Maeve Riley's work clothes

As stylist to big-name actresses like Haley Bieber, Megan Fox, and Ciara, Maeve Riley regularly creates the street style and red carpet looks that populate our Instagram feeds and fashion blogs. But when it comes to her own closet, Riley prioritizes function over capitalized fashions, opting for cozy matching sets and practical yet professional menswear-inspired separates.

But the LA-based fashionista, who has worked in the industry for 16 years, wasn't as adamant about her style as she appeared. Over the past few years, I've kind of figured out who I am and how I want to dress," Riley tells Marie Claire. It takes time to find your own style. I think you learn how to dress for yourself through trial and error.

Here, 33-year-old Reilly talks about how her chic clients inspire her own wardrobe, her favorite brands, her enviable blazer collection, and what she wears to excel at work.

I wake up every day at 6:30 am. After coffee, I pray and meditate, then read a devotional for 20 minutes. This is a revolutionary way for me to focus. [Then I go to the gym at 8 a.m., put on my athleisure brand SET ACTIVE (opens in new tab), and try to work out six days a week. Then I go home, shower, walk the dog, and head to work at 9 am, whether in the office or on set. Having time in the morning is really important to me because I take care of other people for a living. I need it to keep myself strong and healthy.

I think what works for me is. What clothes have I worn that I can wear again or remix? For me, if it's a night and I have to go to the business scene, it's always a blazer and jeans, plus heels and a nice bag. Easy, right? Of course, there are times when I change a few times because I think this is not my current vibe. But I'm pretty consistent with myself.

If I get stuck, I remember to go back to something I know will work. Once you find something that works for you, there's no reason not to do it over and over again. Once you know who you are, just keep at it.

I work 15 hours a day, and that's when comfort is a must. I can't wear tight-fitting pants. I need to be comfortable and feel like I can move. When I'm with clients, fitting, shopping, prepping, I always wear sweatpants. I created a clothing line this year called "The Local Love Club" (opens in new tab), and I'm living in them right now. I think baggy sweatpants can be very cool and smart if styled well. Haley [Bieber] and I have been doing that for a really long time, so I was excited when the whole world jumped on that bandwagon.

When I go out with clients to events and fashion shows, I have to step up my game because I'm representing them. But I'm definitely in the back of the pack.

Suits are my power wear. It never fails me. So for work events, I love power suits. They make me feel strong, sophisticated, and beautiful. Plus, it's easy to move around in a suit. I feel like I can work if I need to fix someone's dress or fix a zipper or something. You will see millions of pictures of me standing behind Haley (Bieber) in a really beautiful suit and she looks like the hottest girl in the most beautiful dress. I love that.

My blazer closet is kind of extravagant. I have 20-30 blazers. I think Margiela does a great job. I also have a few classic items like Saint Laurent. I joke about "Haley's hand-me-downs," because some of them she gives away to me. If she doesn't want to keep them, I say, "Give me those." Over the years, she's given me some great gifts.

When I shop for myself, I buy investment pieces. I don't buy frivolous items. I love shoes, so I spend a lot of money on shoes. In fact, I just bought a pair of Amina Muaddi heels I really wanted from Farfetch (opens in new tab) using PayPal's Pay in 4 (opens in new tab) option. She keeps releasing cool shoes and they are really comfortable.

For something more affordable, Nasty Gal has some great items. These leather baggy pants I wear all the time. They have a very cool split on the side and are a very classic pair of pants, while still being on the split-hem trend... $40, I think. I also have a plaid oversized shirt (opens in new tab) that I throw over everything. Especially on summer days when I'm going in and out of air-conditioned stores, it's nice to have something to throw on.

Tomboyish, edgy, comfortable, and sexy.

I can't live without my Jennifer Fisher gold hoops. During the day, I wear little gold hoops so they don't get in the way. I'm also a huge Jackie Aish fan. She made me a piece of jewelry with a crystal and ruby heart with an evil eye for protection. I also love Bottega jewelry and just bought a gold hoop (opens in new tab). I think jewelry is a wonderful thing that never goes out of style.

I usually don't wear (color) at home. I'm usually monotone. But when I do go out, I get excited about color. Like boxer shorts and button-down oversized shirts in a bunch of colors. It's like boxer shorts and button-down oversized shirts, in multiple colors. I really liked them so much I ordered more (in different colors).
