On My Block" Season 4: Everything We Know

After a year of great change and social distance, our favorite East LA crew returns for one final season of adventure Netflix's hit coming-of-age show On My Block is coming sooner than expected, a year and a half after season 3 began streaming in March 2020. The show will be in its final season. Season 4 will premiere on Netflix on October 4, 2021, and will continue where the two-year time jump left off.

All 10 episodes of the fourth and final season of "On My Block" will be available on Netflix on October 4. After months of silence, Netflix announced on January 29 that the Freeridge crew would "link up for one last adventure."

On September 7, Netflix released a first look photo featuring all of our favorites, along with the premiere air date (opens in new tab). [We follow Ruby (Jason Geneo), Jamal (Brett Gray), Monse (Sierra Capri), and Cesar (Diego Tinoco) through their last year of high school. Jessica Marie Garcia as Jasmine and Julio Macias as Oscar aka Spooky also star.

Season 3 ended with the bittersweet conclusion of Monse leaving Free Ridge for a private boarding school after a search for neighborhood legend Lil Ricky that ended with the mysterious death of Big Bad Kucharos. Ruby, Jamal, and Cesar saw her off, and the four friends promised not to grow apart.

The program then included a surprise epilogue that included a two-year time jump, indicating that the friends were no longer conversing. Monse is at boarding school, interacting with new friends. Jamal is back on the football team and is not talking to Ruby, who is still dating Jasmine. As for Cesar and Spooky, the brothers seem to have switched places. Cesar is the leader of Santos, while Spooky has a baby with his girlfriend and lives a family life.

Season 4 appears to begin with a time jump; Netflix's official synopsis for season 4 says:

Even before season 4 was confirmed, the staff of On My Block revealed that the new episodes would depict a group of friends breaking up The showrunner, Lauren Iunis, was the first to announce the new episodes. Showrunner Lauren Iungerich told the A.V. Club (opens in new tab) that she thinks the time jump is a way to get to know the characters better.

"I feel this is a great way to kind of reset as we conquer new lands and say new things about these characters and get to know them further. We didn't do it [that ending] as a safeguard [in anticipation of being censored], because we knew that depending on how much Netflix liked the cut, there was a good chance that a season four would be produced. It all depends on how many people will watch," she said.

In an interview about the ending of season 3, Iungerich told TV Guide (opens in new tab) that what happened during the two years that caused the friends to grow apart She said she would get "definitive answers" about what happened during the two years that caused the friends to become estranged. She hinted that Monse, who thought she was the glue of the group, may have been the first to leave at boarding school.

"She may have been the first to abandon those friends. It would unravel the idea for Season 4, and I don't want to ruin that idea if we do get a Season 4. But I think what we're looking at is a girl who has finally, potentially, accepted the opportunity to spread her wings... It's going to be a very complex and interesting story, but it's so real that it's heartbreaking."
