Amanda Gorman to Direct Modern Lady Liberty at the 2021 Met Gala
Hello and welcome to the red carpet (opens in new tab) of the 2021 Met Gala. Poet Amanda Gorman made her first appearance on the steps of the Met in New York City, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, an American icon!
Gorman's gown was custom made by Vera Wong and is a striking deep royal blue that evokes a starry night sky. Sticking with this theme, Gorman wore a book-shaped clutch bag and a custom-made silver laurel headband, created for her by New York-based designer Jennifer Behr, over her long, flowing braids. The hairpiece is an adaptation of Behr's classic Ariel Cinyon wrap, hand-set with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. Gorman's beauty look matched the rest of her look perfectly, with silver glitter stars scattered across her cheekbones and forehead.
The theme of tonight's Met Gala was a celebration of American fashion, and Gorman was actually one of the co-chairs for the evening. She is co-chairing the event with Timothée Chalamet, who has already arrived on the red carpet, as well as Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka.
