Season 2 of "Nine Perfect Strangers": will it happen?

Depending on who you ask, the first season of "Nine Perfect Strangers" either ended very pleasantly, with everyone's arcs tied up neatly (open with new tab), or it ended with a bit of a question mark, relying only on the hallucinations of the books. Either way, the door was left wide open, especially in terms of the continuing story of Marcia (Nicole Kidman) (open in new tab). But that is not guaranteed, as the show was originally dubbed a "limited series" and only has eight episodes. Here's what we know about a possible Season 2 of "Nine Perfect Strangers".

We know that Francis wrote a book appropriately titled "Nine Perfect Strangers," after the real book on which the show is based (opens in new tab), and that Marcia definitely read that book and also stole (or received) Ben's yellow Lamborghini. (or received it). Masha does not end up in jail, and is shown cruising along the Pacific coast with a hallucination of her dead daughter next to her (implying that Masha, having released her power to see Tatiana, is probably still doing drugs). [It is implied that Jessica and Ben will be working at Tranquillum House (open with a new tab), that Lars will have a child, that Tony will reconcile with his children and live happily with Frances, that Carmel will heal from her trauma and work in group therapy, and that Frances' book appears We can all imagine how the characters will end up. This means that if a second season is decided to air, we will know what really happened to these strangers. Or, if it turns out that the ending of season one was real and not a reflection of what Francis wrote, season two may delve into what happened after their seemingly happy grasp on happiness. Will Francis and Tony really stay together and learn to trust and love again? Do Jessica and Ben really enjoy running the wellness resort?

Needless to say, Marcia "lives nine lives" - so in Season 2, we may see the wellness guru trying to rebuild a new group of strangers in a new city or country. Or perhaps she will be content to spend time with the ghost of her daughter" or perhaps her own mismanagement will finally catch up with her (there is an unresolved storyline in which the wife of a dead man in Tranquillum blames Marsha for his death). Delilah and Yao may also appear in the second season: will Masha go after Delilah for turning herself in to the police in the first place?

The first season of Nine Perfect Strangers was based on the book of the same name by Liane Moriarty. As long as there is no sequel to the book, the show is not set to continue. However, with writer/producers David E. Kelley and Nicole Kidman involved, we can never say never. The duo's other project, "Big Little Lies," is also based on Moriarty's novel, and a second season was produced despite the lack of book material. Nevertheless, another project, HBO's "The Undoing," based on Kelly and Kidman's book, did not get a second season as originally planned, even though it was one of the most talked about shows in 2020 (opens in new tab).

However, depending on the show's director, Jonathan Levine, a season two of "Nine Perfect Strangers" will definitely happen; speaking to BuzzFeed (opens in new tab), Levine turned the series into an anthology, with the concept He explained the overall plan for the second season, which will feature new characters (opens in new tab). (This would also solve the problem of bringing back A-list stars like Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale to the project.)

"One thing I thought would be cool is if we could get another group of like nine people," he said.

"One of them would be like a celebrity playing themselves. I'd love for people to do more of that. And that's if we can convince David E. Kelley and Nicole [Kidman], the creators of the series."
