Read More"Midnight Mass" Season 1 spoilers ahead. Mike Flanagan's "Midnight Mass" packs a lot into just seven episodes; Netflix's horror series/religious allegory/vampire drama has Crockett Island (opens in new tab) burning and most of the cast (opens in new tab) dead, The remaining characters feasted on the blood and the wounded angel/demon who caused the mayhem fled the scene. Having said that most of the characters died and most of the island burned, there is always the possibility that a show like "Midnight Mass" will get a season two.
It is possible, but unlikely. First, "Midnight Mass" is billed as a limited series. Certainly, there are other limited series shows, like "Big Little Lies," that ultimately decided to return for a second season, but not everyone died at the end of "Big Little Lies." Only two relatively minor characters, teenagers Lisa and Warren, survive the vampire invasion (whatever we call it) on Crockett Island, and they leave in a small boat and watch their house burn from the sea. The angel/demon also technically survives and escapes the island on a burnt-out wing, so a second season could follow their journey to the mainland, but the show would lose something essential if it were set anywhere but an economically depressed island full of religious fanatics like Crockett.
We know from previous episodes that the island has been devastated before: in 1984, the entire island was "burned to the ground," with nothing left but the church. The island has been rebuilt, possibly with Lisa and Warren, and possibly even with angels and demons.
But it is still unlikely. First of all, Flanagan specializes in limited series, and even though he often revives actors and themes, such as "The Haunting of Hill House" and "The Haunting of Bly Mansion," many of the main characters in "Midnight Mass" are familiar. Instead, he prefers to use versatile actors as a variety of characters in a variety of situations.
So here we are: next up for Flanagan is "The Midnight Club," featuring three prominent actors from "Midnight Mass": Zach Gilford, Matt Beadell, and Samantha Sloyan. They are Zach Guilford, Matt Beidel, and Samantha Sloyan. In other words, "Hill House" is a sequel to "Midnight Mass" just as "Hill House" is a sequel to "Bly Manor."
