How to Transform Self-Love into Selfless Love at The Body Shop

In a hectic time (home, community, world, take your pick), self-care is often overlooked. That's a problem. Taking time to focus on meeting your own needs is one of the best ways to care for others who depend on you. As the old airport adage goes: You have to put on your own oxygen mask before you can help others. At the beginning of the year, The Body Shop launched a global movement called Self Love Uprising to celebrate the act of self-care and address the startling fact that one in two people have more self-doubt than self-love. The goal was to foster ways to create more self-acceptance in the journey to better self-love.

And this holiday season, the brand is encouraging people to turn that love outward. The Body Shop's new holiday campaign, "Spread the Love, Share the Joy," honors the selfless contributions of caregivers through a partnership with CAREĀ® USA, a nonprofit that has been fighting poverty since 1945. The $50,000 donation will support CARE's efforts to deliver 10 million CARE PackagesĀ® containing life-saving food and critical services to needy families across the United States by the end of 2021.

But this is just the beginning of what The Body Shop hopes to accomplish this holiday season: Chances are good that someone you know is a caregiver. One in ten adults is involved in the care of people with limited abilities, such as the elderly or those with physical or mental disabilities. Moreover, these responsibilities are constant throughout the year, usually unpaid, and fall disproportionately on women and girls. Despite the fact that caregivers are the unsung heroes who sustain their communities, according to Carers UK, eight in ten caregivers report feelings of loneliness and isolation. Limited budgets, increased responsibilities due to a pandemic, and the stresses of being on vacation, caregivers are too busy taking care of others to take time out for themselves. That's why The Body Shop offers an opportunity to shine a light on the caregivers who support you all year long.

Starting this Black Friday, The Body Shop will be offering a gift-back promotion on its Community Care Pouches, a special edition of holiday gifts filled with luxurious body and skin care products for your self-love journey. For each pouch, $2 will be donated to CARE USA, with up to an additional $25,000, for a total of $75,000.

And to continue the selfless love, The Body Shop will highlight the valuable work of caregivers throughout the holidays with Portraits of Care, a social media initiative honoring local caregivers who sustain their communities. thebodyshopnorthamerica and share your caregiver portraits using the #givewithjoy hashtag and a custom augmented reality filter on Instagram Stories.

Visit thebodyshop.com this Black Friday and show the caregivers in your life how much their work is appreciated. Because one act of selfless love can have a huge impact on your community and beyond.
