What is the relationship between "selling Tampa" and "selling Sunset"?

The winning formula for Netflix's reality show "Selling Sunset" is: luxury homes + glamorous divas + lots of human drama = a show not to be missed. Now, the worldview of "Selling" has expanded to produce its first spinoff centered on the soaring luxury real estate market in Tampa, Florida (and a little bit in Miami).

The first season of Selling Tampa premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, December 15, and the agents at Allure Realty have already won fans over: the two-year-old brokerage, staffed entirely by women of color, has made Sunset our has all the luxury property and workplace drama that made us love it, but with a more emerging vibe and not a single male on the show (kudos to the Oppenheim brothers, though). Fans who have been wondering how the new show connects to the original may be pleasantly surprised to learn that there is no cast crossover in this new season. Below is what we know so far about the "Selling" franchise.

"Selling Sunset" and "Selling Tampa" were created by Adam DiVello, who also created "Laguna Beach" and "The Hills" for MTV. They also feature gorgeous cinematography of properties for sale, agency offices and parties, and are shot the same way, with realtor testimonials interspersed throughout.

Season 1 of "Tampa" also mirrors Season 4 of "Sunset" in its treatment of the pandemic. The realtors mention how the pandemic affected their lives, but the camera only shows masks in the background, reminding us that the series was filmed in a later era of social distancing.

Los Angeles and Tampa may be thousands of miles apart, but Instagram is a small world.Allure Realty broker Sharrel Rosado, who established her agency in July 2019 and has a full team in place by 2020, to Creative Loafing, that after researching "Sell Sunset," she actually reached out to DiBello on Instagram.

For viewers expecting Christine or Krischel to show up in Tampa, the cast of Sunset may be seen on the third show in the "Selling" universe. At the end of Season 4 of Sunset, Brett and Jason Oppenheim announced that they would be expanding their office to Newport Beach, a freeway ride from LA. They also introduced some of their Newport agents to the Sunset crew, suggesting that there may be more crossovers in the new show.

"Selling the O.C." began filming last month and will air on Netflix within the next year, according to Variety (opens in new tab).
