Four types of jeans I always invest in
If you're anything like me, you've probably lost count of the number of jeans in your closet. Personally, I'm obsessed with denim, so much so that my first impressions of people usually include a pair of statement overalls or a denim bodysuit.
Well-made jeans are also great in terms of sustainability because they last longer and are incredibly versatile. In the new year, make a deal with yourself: everything in your closet now should be an investment (meaning you don't have to spend a fortune) and should be items that can be re-worn and re-styled as often as you want.
Here are a few types of jeans that I'm glad I invested in.
Bell-bottom jeans, a staple of the '70s, have a wide spread below the knee. This attention-grabbing cut easily turns a simple outfit, like the classic jeans and white tee look, into a fashion statement. Bellbottoms are my favorite jean style because of their inherent nostalgia and the way they elongate the legs, especially when paired with heels.
This laid-back silhouette is designed to sit high on the hips, with exaggerated legs that frame the figure, adding dimension and flattering any body type. The wide leg can be dressed up with heels, dressed down with sneakers, or paired with a bodysuit or crop top for a night out. Comfortable, effortless, and chic, these looks will stand out wherever you go.
Now, we know Generation Z hates this cut: "In the winter, when you want to show off your knee-high or peach-high boots, you want to be able to slip those bad boys on over your jeans," which is where skinny jeans come in handy!
Skinny jeans also work well with baggy tops, such as band t-shirts (my personal favorite), crew necks, and oversized hoodies. I love the contrast between baggy and skin-tight, and skinny jeans definitely look more put together than leggings.
I love overalls. They are a great item to have in your closet for those mornings when you are in a hurry or need a quick change of clothes, and they stand out, especially if they are funky, colorful, or embroidered. They are sure to stand out if they are funky, especially if they are colorful or embroidered. Overalls are also useful on days when you are not feeling well, such as when you have an upset stomach, and you want to avoid having the waist belt dig into your stomach. Wear them with a turtleneck, basic cotton tee, or crop top, dress them up with heels or sandals, or dress them down with combat boots or sneakers!
