Read MoreCheerleading is back. Follow the Navarro University cheer team, led by Monica Aldama, as they struggle with fame, scandal, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Filmed amidst the changes the team faces, this second season unflinchingly follows Navarro as they train to take first place for the second year in a row at the NCA & NDA College Cheer & Dance Championships in Daytona, Florida.
But Navarro is not alone in his quest for gold in Season 2. Dock will look to expand its run to follow in the footsteps of rival Trinity Valley Community College. These evenly matched teams have faced off for years, with the winner being decided by one-tenth of a point on the scoreboard. To find out quickly who won Daytona, click here.
Despite a two-year break between seasons, filming for Season 2 of Cheer☆Dan began as early as January 2020 and followed Navarro as he trained for Daytona that year.Cheer Also on the heels of the Season 1 premiere, Gabi, Lexi, Morgan, Ladarius, Coach Monica, and other stars of the team were shown balancing practice and press appearances. Despite this, the team did quite well with their routine.
Then came March 2020, and with COVID just around the corner, the team entered Hell Week, an intense week of conditioning and perfecting routines for the Daytona competition. Shortly thereafter, the world began to shut down and most sporting events, including the NBA, NCAA, and Daytona, were canceled. Hundreds of school cheer seasons across the country ended abruptly, as did cheer seasons at both Navarro and Trinity Valley.
This season, we are introduced to the Trinity Valley Community College cheer team, a 12-time Daytona champion and longtime rival of Navarro. Led by head coach and former TVCC cheerleader Vontae Johnson, the team features several all-stars, including veteran Jada Wooten, tumbler Devonte "Dee" Joseph, and Angel Rice, who holds the Guinness World Record for tumbling.
After all, Trinity Valley has been on Cheerleader's radar from the beginning, and Johnson has revealed that he was approached for season one. The coach told "Entertainment Tonight" (opens in new tab) that he had turned down the production at the time, but said yes after seeing season one. 'I liked the way we portrayed the sport. So I definitely wouldn't have turned it down a second time."
The second half of Cheer Season 2 will follow both teams as they train for Daytona 2021 throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Unfortunately, while the cheerleaders' eligibility was extended for a year due to the pandemic, not all of them decided to return. Lexie, a standout player in season one, left the school, and Ladarius had to leave the team after a public feud with coach Monica. Jerry Harris also did not return because he had been charged with sexual assault.
Among the Navarro members who returned were veteran Gabi Butler and newcomers Maddy Blum, Jillian Rupert, and Casady Dunlap, who had joined the previous year.
Both teams advanced to the Daytona 2021 at the end of the season, with the series following a two-day qualifying round and a final round. In the final round, both teams performed two complex routines, scoring zero points, or zero errors, in one round, but missing several tricks in another. Trinity Valley made an error in the preliminary round, while Navarro missed a stunt in the final.
As a result, Navarro (open in new tab) scored 98.0708 points and Trinity Valley (open in new tab) scored 98.2292 points, winning by 0.1584 points.Cheer, after showing the congratulations of one team and the defeat of the other, several cast members returned for another year After showing the celebration of one team and the defeat of the other, Cheer concludes the season with testimonials in which several cast members talk about whether they will return for another year. As for this year, time will tell whether Navarro or Valley will take home the trophy at Daytona, which runs from April 6-10.
