Season 3 of "Never Have I Ever": Everything We Know

With an open schedule, voice actor and tennis legend (opens in new tab) (yes, in that order) John McEnroe "Never Have I Ever" (opens in new tab) returns for a third season. The Netflix show about the hilarious, sometimes surreal, sometimes moving, but always dramatic life of Devi Vishwakumar is returning to Netflix for a third installment. Based on the epic 10 episodes of Season 2, this show is going to be even more vulnerable, chaotic, and interesting.

Despite a season of arguably bad decisions (two-timing, bullying his new friends, stalking his mother), season 2 ended on a high note for Devi. The season 2 finale also hinted that Ben (Jalen Lewison) was not too keen on Devi and Paxton settling down. The finale also saw Kamala (Richa Moorjani) walk away from a prospective marriage and Fabiola (Lea Rodriguez) find a way not to lose herself in love.

That's right. Shortly after Season 2 skyrocketed into Netflix's Top 10, the streaming company announced that the teen comedy has been renewed for a third season. In a press release, series co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher expressed their excitement about continuing Devi's story: "Netflix and Universal Television for allowing us to continue telling this story, and this misbehaving Indian teenager's We are so grateful to our fans around the world who were eager to see the continuation," they said.Netflix and lead actor Maitrey Ramakrishnan released a compilation video on Instagram to share the good news.

Netflix has not announced a premiere date for the show's third season, but a social media clip teasing season three said "coming soon." However, in Netflix's world, that means it will likely be sometime in late 2022, given the more than one-year gap between seasons 1 and 2; Netflix confirmed in early 2022 that season 3 is currently in production.

The show's cast and creators have all teased what lies ahead for Season 3. Co-creator Lang Fisher revealed in an interview with ET (opens in new tab) that the next season will discuss "sex and what happens when a nerd who has done very little gets into a relationship with an experienced guy."

Barnett also said in an interview with PopSugar (opens in new tab) that he is excited to see how Devi and Paxton's new relationship will unfold, even if it means more drama instead of blissful happiness. There is so much more for Devi to learn about Paxton, for Paxton to learn about himself, and for Devi to learn about herself," he said. When all of that comes to fruition, they may fall in love, they may realize they are better as friends, or they may absolutely hate each other.

In an interview with ET, Fisher also promised that Devi's family will continue to be a big part of the series, especially after the introduction of her grandmother Nirmala in season two. 'She brings a whole other dimension and fills a little bit of the void left by Mohan. I can't wait to see the new dynamics of her family." Fisher also hopes to see Devi and her mother's relationship "grow, evolve, and change." She added, "It would be nice to see them lean on each other a little more."

And speaking of Devi's mother, Dr. Nalini Vishwakumar: Despite starting to dip her toes into the dating pool in Season 2, actress Paolana Jagannathan is unsure if her character will continue to seek romance in Season 3, and Nalini simply says, "I'm not ready." Sorry, Common.

As for Devi, Ramakrishnan hopes her character will develop more courage and be more honest with herself in Season 3. She told ET, "I'd love to see Devi stand up for herself more."

In January 2022, Netflix announced that Anirudh Pisharodi will be a regular guest star starting in season 3. He will play Des, "an Indian-American teen boy who is as smart as Devi but attends an elite private school. Given Devi's dating history, this new member can only spell disaster for our favorite high school student. Pisharody previously had supporting roles in "FOX 9-1-1," "The Goldbergs," and "Last Man Standing."
