Explaining the trend of soapy eyebrows
We can all agree that it is a great relief that full eyebrows (open in new tab) are once again being admired, and we can sleep soundly at night knowing that 30 years from now, we won't look back at pictures of ourselves in our 20s and be horrified by our emaciated, barely there brows! Brow pencil (opens in a new tab) Now that I've mastered the brow pencil (open in new tab) and brow gel (open in new tab), it's no surprise that there's a new trend I need to master: soapy brows.
Soap brows are aptly named. This trend has been on the fringes for a while, but TikTok's creative makeup-obsessed youth have brought it into the mainstream. The idea is to spray glycerin soap with facial spray or just water and comb your eyebrows with a string tweezers. It looks easy, but as with any new beauty trend, you have to try it yourself to see if it actually works.
TikTok user @millieleer easily achieves fluffy soapy brows, so Marie Claire decided to give it a try. We start with a quick step-by-step guide.
The results are wild. Even the most bushy eyebrows can be tamed and made to look like fake eyebrows. Feathery, brushed brows can be thick and bushy, yet still tame. Celebrity brow artist Rene de la Garza, founder of Brow Down Studio, recommends using "long, upward lifting strokes."
While the results are undeniable, leaving soap on the skin for hours can be damaging to sensitive skin.
"Most soaps on the market are dermatologist-proven safe, so the soaps are technically safe for the skin.
Fortunately, beauty brands are working overtime to create skin-safe brow products that mimic the look of soapy brows without the sensitivity.
Soap works similarly to brow wax (open in new tab), but soap does not last as long. Both products give a feathery effect to the eyebrows with different movements. Soap foams when you sweat, while wax remains supple and sculptable, so the styling lasts longer," he says.
Nevertheless, soapy brows have their advantages. Mainly, the product isn't as thick and is much easier to remove than wax buildup.
If you still want the help of a pencil or other coloring product, simply draw on those additional hairs after applying the soap or other product. That's it, you're done!
