What is Anna Delvey doing now?

Netflix's "Inventing Anna" is a con-artist show for anyone who loves glitz, glamour, and tragicomedy about the rich. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the show is based on the story of Anna Delvey (née Sorokin), a "Soho con artist" whose escapades were featured in the viral article "Maybe She Had So Much Money She Just Lost Track of It" (opens in a new tab) Based on.

Between 2013 and 2017, the fake heiress was convicted of defrauding New York City socialites out of more than $200,000 from hotels, restaurants, banks, and private jet operators. The series chronicles Sorokin's conviction, and fans who devoured the show will be wondering what she is doing now. Here is everything we know about Anna Delvey's post-conviction activities.

In real life, as well as on the show, Sorokin was found guilty after a trial that drew media attention for her wardrobe choices and demands. According to The Guardian (opens in new tab), Sorokin "threw a tantrum when she couldn't get an outfit coordinated by her stylist and was admonished for drawing an unflattering sketch of the chief prosecutor during her testimony."

Sorokin was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison for one count of attempted grand larceny, three counts of grand larceny, and four counts of theft by service. She served her time at Albion Correctional Facility until her parole in February 2021, when she was released early for good behavior.

Upon her release, she enjoyed a few weeks of freedom. She returned to social media as @theannadelvey on Instagram (opens in new tab) and Twitter (opens in new tab). Photos from the time show her out and about in New York City.

Six weeks after her release, Sorokin was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for visa overstay. In an essay for Insider (opens in new tab) published prior to the premiere of Inventing Anna, she stated that her visa overstay was "unintentional and out of my control." She appealed her deportation, but remained in custody after a judge deemed her a "continuing danger to the community" based on press interviews and social media.

In mid-March 2022, Sorokin lost a battle with immigration authorities that lasted a year and resulted in her deportation to Germany, where she spent part of her teenage years. (Sorokin told reporters that he had built a life in New York and was determined to stay there.

Sorokin has been presented in the media (and on television shows) as showing little remorse for his actions, but at his sentencing hearing he told the court, "I apologize for the mistakes I made." In an interview conducted the day after the sentencing (opens in new tab), Sorokin admitted If I say I am sorry about something, I am lying to you, to others, and to myself. I regret my ways about certain things."

In a recent interview with the New York Times (open in new tab), she defiantly expressed regret for her actions, reflecting that she was still processing everything when she made the initial quote.

"I am sorry for how my case has been received. And I am sorry that I have acted in a way that I am now perceived as glorifying. I am sorry for my choices." Definitely don't feel that the world would be a better place just because people try to be like me."

She also recently expressed (opens in new tab) that she feels unable to move on with her life and put her crimes behind her; of being detained by ICE, she told Cosmopolitan (opens in new tab), "I was given the opportunity to move on and they took everything from me. They took it away from me. I feel like I'm being judged for the same things over and over again. According to the NYT, she sold her life rights to the show's creators for $320,000 and is working as a paid consultant for the series. In an interview with Cosmopolitan (opens in new tab), she said of the series, "This will override reality. It's strange to see your life owned by someone else," she said, adding, "It's a good exercise in letting go."

She also noted that many of her friends and associates serve as consultants for the show. She said, "It's like a lot of people in your life telling you what they think of you at the same time. After all, most of the time we don't want to know what people really think about us."

As for how he felt about the portrayal of himself, he recalled that after watching the trailer, he wondered, "Am I that insufferable a person? If so, she said, "I don't feel like I can be friends with myself."

Although she was held captive during the production of Inventing Anna, Sorokin had the opportunity to meet the actresses who would play her. During an appearance on Julia Fox and Niki Takesh's podcast Forbidden Fruits, the con artist recalled meeting actress Julia Garner in prison. 'She was very nice,' he said. 'She came to see me.'

Apparently, Garner performed Anna's accent for the real-life con artist. Said Sorokin, "It's strange because when you hear your own voice on TV, it's so different."

When Fox rated Garner's accent a "6 out of 10" and noted that Sorokin's current accent is more subtle, the con artist defended the actress' portrayal. 'She's been playing me since 2015, 2016, 2017. So for the last four years I was in America. She was surrounded by Americans, so maybe her accent was different. 'These days I speak very little German. I only speak English. I used to speak French, German, and English on a daily basis.'

Although she is currently in custody, the notorious con artist is still hustling and sharing her story; according to Deadline (opens in new tab), Sorokin has teamed up with "Surviving R. Kelly" producer Bunim/Murray Productions and is teaming up to produce a limited-edition documentary that will "explore the next chapter of her life." The program will begin where "The Invention of Anna" left off, and will follow her fast-changing plans on a day-to-day basis, providing insight into how she thinks.

"Anna's story is very much alive and still unfolding as we speak. We have been working with her on this project for months now and have spent countless hours on the phone and video calls. She is a complex and fascinating character and we look forward to telling the next chapter of her evolving story," said Mike Driscoll, Director of Development at Bunim/Murray Productions.

And in an interview with the NYT, Anna hinted that she is working on a project with Julia Fox. 'We have a similar sense of humor. She was never critical and we've stayed in touch ever since." She added that she and Fox are "working on little things together."
