Read More"Bridgerton" fans know that Netflix's hit "Bridgerton" still has a lot left to show. The show, based on the novels by Julia Quinn, has just begun season two, but there is still the love story of the six Bridgerton siblings. And besides the siblings, there are several other members of the Tong family who have become our favorites, led by the always elegant and stern Charlotte, queen of the Whistledown hunt.
Luckily for us, the production team behind "Bridgerton" is bringing a new series to Netflix featuring our favorite queen. The yet-to-be-named spin-off will be an origin story for Charlotte, offering a new romance in which a young woman meets and falls in love with the King of England. Here is everything we know about the Bridgerton Universe series.
Netflix announced the series last May, and according to Variety (opens in new tab), Shonda Rhimes will write and executive produce Queen Charlotte's Origin Story; Netflix's website Tudum (opens in new tab) says the series will follow the queen's engagement to King George.
Also, as Lady Danbury previously noted in season one, their marriage paved the way for non-white elites to enter society. The new series will also feature a young Lady Danbury and a young Lady Bridgerton, and will depict the origins of three of our favorite elders.
"Many viewers were unaware of Queen Charlotte's story until Bridgerton introduced her to the world. We are thrilled that this new series will further expand her story and Bridgerton's world," Netflix's Head of Global TV Bella Bajaria said at the time. Shonda and her team have thoughtfully crafted the Bridgerton universe so that it continues to offer fans the same quality and style that they love." And by planning and preparing now for all of the upcoming seasons, we hope to keep up the pace that will fully satisfy even the most insatiable viewers."
[10Original actors Golda Rocheval (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Ando (Mrs. Danbury), and Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgton) will reprise their roles in the new spin-off. As for their younger versions, Netflix announced that British actress India Amarteifio will play young Charlotte in spring 2022. Amarteifio is best known for her role in the British crime drama Line of Duty and also appeared in a season one episode of Sex Education.
Newcomer Alcema Thomas will play young Agatha Danbury, teaching the new queen the ways of London society while also finding her own voice. There is also a fantasy drama crossover, with "Game of Thrones" actress Michelle Fairley playing Princess Augusta, a mother struggling to protect her son's monarchy. The film also stars Corey Mylcrest as young King George, Sam Clemmett, Richard Cunningham, Tunji Qasim, Rob Maloney, Cyril Nri, and Hugh Sachs. (The young Mrs. Bridgerton has not yet been cast.)
This was posted along with pictures of the program's first table read. If filming proceeds quickly, a new series could be seen by the end of 2023.
