Read MoreWith the start of Season 5 of "Sunset," the Oppenheim Group's LA office is getting very crowded, and the latest season of the Netflix hit has a lot to offer, including the ill-fated relationship between Krischelle Stauss and Jason Oppenheim and the arrival of newcomer Chelsea Razkani, a real estate agent who Several storylines are being followed. Even before Chelsea officially joins the brokerage, it is clear that several realtors will be subject to a shakeout.
Unfortunately for those of us who love chaos, one of the realtors whose future is up in the air is the show's general antagonist, Christine Quinn. For those still basking in the afterglow of the finale, here's everything we know about Christine's fate in the post-season 5 brokerage.
After officially returning from maternity leave in Season 5, Christine has a rough time at the brokerage. The other O Group realtors largely ignore her in private conversations, but she responds childishly (making dinner reservations in the middle of a meeting is a common occurrence). Toward the end of the season, she talks about having a hard time with newcomer Chelsea.
"I really just feel like it's getting harder and harder to do my job," she explains in the finale. Because I'm constantly faced with different bullshit, and I feel like I've gotten to the point where the drama is affecting my work and I don't want to be in the office because I don't want to do that," she explains in the finale. Let's put the personal bullshit aside and get some work done."
"I'm not going to be here," she says.
She even mentions in this episode that she is thinking about opening her own brokerage in the future. She says, "I've been thinking about it a little bit lately. It's not that I'm desperate for work. I'm intelligent, I can start my own brokerage firm. I can be a broker. If Davina can do it, I can do it. I want to work for myself, I want to be an independent boss," she says.
Of course, Christine remained Christine throughout the season, and by the finale, she made disparaging comments, both on camera and in the press, about Krischelle and Jason's relationship. Then, near the end of the season, Emma tells Jason and his new manager, Mary, that Christine has allegedly offered her client $5,000 not to work with her anymore. (Christine has not commented on the allegations, but tweets: "Enjoy the new season and the 5,000 fake stories.") Rather than go to a disciplinary meeting, Christine testified that there was "absolutely no truth" to the allegations and sent them away, saying she did not need to report them to "Mom and Dad."
The abrupt ending of the finale, right after Christine shrugged off the meeting, may have been surprising to some viewers, as there were no hints as to whether the realtor was actually fired or whether he would remain a broker. Netflix and the show's producers knew there were still many issues to wrap up this season, so they planned "Selling Sunset's" first reunion special. Filming took place on April 24, but Christine was not present: her representative told Page Six that she tested positive for COVID and did not attend "out of caution for the cast and crew."
Krischelle Stuess did not believe it and posted this tweet: "Lie detector test shows I'm lying.
Jason spoke about Christine in the special and said he had met with a client who was allegedly involved in the payment fiasco and when Jason asked about what happened, including follow-up questions, the client was "very clear." 'I would love to hear Christine's explanation. I believe there is more to the story, but at the same time, I think it is indisputable that she did this."
When moderator Tan France asked if Jason and Christine had talked about the allegations and if she still worked for the O Group, Jason said, "We have emailed, but not specifically about this situation. She has not reached out to talk about it. I know she has something on her mind. 'Right now, there is no place for her in the Oppenheim Group. Now, in the future, if she gets serious about real estate, understands how she thinks about things, changes her behavior, or brings in a big property, there is a lot of reason to think there is a place for her in the Oppenheim Group, but I have to say there is no place for her now."
As of May 2, Christine's bio has been removed from the brokerage's website, leaving only a 404 error (opens in new tab). This change was made two weeks after the end of Season 5 and prior to the airing of the reunion. It is also consistent with a Forbes interview with Christine in mid-April: "[Christine's] decision to leave the Oppenheim Group was in part because the Oppenheim Group was not future-oriented and was not a believer in crypto."
Us Weekly also reported on April 30 that she quit the brokerage firm." Sources say that "it was Christine's decision to leave the Oppenheim Group"; as of May 6, this appears to be her official stance, as she has not given an interview about her departure.
During the run of "Selling Sunset," Christine has been constantly outspoken about the show and its cast, but has been surprisingly quiet in recent months. In addition to the release of makeshift posters and trailers, her Instagram and Twitter feeds have been filled with glamorous shots, collaborations with ShoeDazzle, her forthcoming book "How to Be a Boss Bitch," her new crypto real estate venture with husband Christian (new tab She has been concentrating on promoting her own projects, including her upcoming book How to Be a Boss Bitch and her new crypto real estate venture with husband Christian (opens in new tab). She also recently tweeted: "Why work for someone else when you can be your own CEO"
.
For those who like to keep up with O Group staff updates, there have been significant changes at the firm as the sun sets. The staff page has been completely updated with Orange County real estate agents, and Brett Oppenheim is no longer listed as a broker, confirming speculation that he has left the brokerage. Kane Lim of Bring Empire is listed as an agent and experienced developer.
Beyond the (scant) evidence we have found, we are a bit concerned about the possibility of Christine leaving Sunset itself. As she confirmed in a deleted tweet (open in new tab) last October, the star appeared in every episode of seasons 4 and 5. If she is indeed leaving the show, what will be left of Sunset without the drama she provided, which always seems to crop up in scenes other than Krischelle and Jason's relationship (which is also over)? It may take a reboot to sell Sunset, but after five seasons of playing Quinn, it's hard to imagine what the show would be like without her.
