Ana de Armas' platinum hair, which transformed her into Marilyn Monroe in "Blonde," was "a big job."

Ana de Armas has released the first look for her highly anticipated film Blonde. But changing her hair from dark brown to the iconic platinum tone Marilyn had in the 60s took some very careful planning.

"As you can imagine, it was a massive job," hairstylist Jamie Lee McIntosh told "Marie Claire" exclusively. Not only did we have to create a lot of looks for the story arcs in the script, but we also had to match the multiple iconic images of Marilyn and Norma Jeane." Because the film will depict Marilyn's life from childhood to stardom, the team had 30 different looks to choose from.

To accomplish this task, McIntosh teamed up with Rob Pickens of Wig Maker Associates. They ended up creating two wigs for de Armas as a young Norma Jeane (aka Marilyn Monroe's real name) and three Marilyn-era wigs. 'There were only two creamy blondes of different lengths and one platinum. We all know how many different styles, shades of blonde, and lengths Marilyn had throughout her life. But with careful coordination and fine mohair detailing at the hairline, they were able to match almost perfectly throughout.

Thus prepared, Armas' transformation into Marilyn had to be done in exactly two limited hours. McIntosh explains, "I prepared Ana's hair under a flesh-colored wig cap, then our makeup artist, Tina [Rosler-Kerwin], applied custom-made flesh-colored pieces of silicone to Ana's own bangs so that they were invisible."

"Then we blended the bald cap cut-outs through the top so that the skin would show through the parting of the Marilyn wig, rather than through the stocking cap or Ana's own hair."

When it came to the actual hair styling products used on set, McIntosh took the less is more approach. She said, "If you use too much product on a wig, it loses its vibrancy and becomes dull. However, she used L'Oréal Technipre Setting Lotion to set the wig with rollers, plus TRESemme Tres Two Unscented Hairspray and René Furterer Shine Mist to add shine. For hair care, McIntosh says, "I alternate a conditioning treatment [under the wig] with Leonor Greil's Mask a Rochide and No. 3 Olaplex Hair Perfector."
