Unconfirmed reports indicate that the actress fell out with the show's writer/creator Sam Levinson, resulting in the minimization of Kat's storyline in Season 2. Rumors suggest that Ferreira may not return for future seasons as a result. (Speaking to Variety, Ferreira said of returning for Season 3: "It's a really big cast, so we'll see.")

I told [director] Sam [Levinson] that I want to come out of the coma and go after Laurie. Dominique Fike, who played Elliot, revealed that Sam Levinson told him he could leave the show at any time. 'Sam always gave me the option to quit. He was like, 'Anytime you want to be a musician, just tell me and I'll kill you'"

According to Variety, Zendaya said of Lou: "Lou wants to be here, and now it's up to her. I really hope that in the future we can explore her life as she approaches the afterlife and her journey of sobriety. But for now, the cast seems to be in the dark about the next plot twist: "I don't know anything. I don't know anything. I'm very curious," Maud Apatow said in an interview with Variety. 'I hear whispers, but almost nothing.'
