Read MoreEvery summer we need at least one show that reminds us of the sweet days of our youth (i.e., before we had to work hard during the warmer months). This year, Jenny Han followed up her "To All the Boys I Loved Before" film trilogy with the adorable Amazon Prime Video series "The Summer I Turned Pretty." The teen show follows 16-year-old Berry's first real teenage summer in an idyllic beach town.
TSITP has already been renewed for a second season (open in new tab) and features a talented new cast (many of whom are still in college.) Here is what we know about these rising stars.
The star of the show is Berry, a 15-year-old (soon to be 16) who has spent every summer at Cousins Beach with his family. She has led a family life, playing with the boys during the day and staying home with her mom at night, but this summer will be completely different.
"The Summer I Became Beautiful" is Tung's first professional role. When she was cast, the 19-year-old had just graduated from LaGuardia High School in New York City and is currently studying acting at Carnegie Mellon University. (Open in new tab).
Conrad is the oldest son of a friend of the Conklin family and Berry's childhood friend. He used to be the fun leader of the foursome, but this year he is more brooding as he recovers from a violent breakup. There is also unresolved romantic tension between him and Berry.
Briney graduated from Pace University in New York City (open in new tab) and acted primarily in plays and short films before her big break with TSITP; she also wrote and directed her own short film called Paix.
Jere is the younger brother of the nimble Fisher family and the same age as Berry. He is Berry's partner in crime and best friend. He always jokes about Berry being his future wife, but sometimes it seems more than a joke. (Much unlike the book, he is also sexually fluid.)
As a child actor, Casalegno worked on major projects such as the 2014 film "Noah" and the CW's "The Vampire Diaries" (where he played a younger version of Damon in season 7.) Prior to "TSITP," he was in the first season of the CW show "Walker He played Trevor Strand; the 22-year-old is also super active on TikTok (open in new tab).
Berry's older brother Steven spends most of his time bickering with Berry, hanging out with the Fisher duo, and working at a country club to raise money for college. He also gets sucked into the festivities of a debutante ball as Shayla's date.
Kaufman also attended LaGuardia in New York and graduated from SUNY Purchase Acting Conservatory this year. He has previously guest starred on shows such as FBI, Most Wanted, Law & Order: Most Wanted, Law & Order: SVU, and Manifesto.
Although Berry has juggled the dynamics of "both" and "neither" with both Conrad and Jere, her first real romance was with Cam, who grew up in Cousins and worked on a whaling ship during the summers.
Iacono may be the show's best-known face, having appeared in the Netflix teen drama Grand Army (as swimmer Bo) and HBO's Max series The Flight Attendant (as Jackie's teenage son Eli) The 19-year-old has also appeared in the 2019 Batman spinoff "Joker" and Showtime's series "City on a Hill." (He also graduated from LaGuardia.)
Berry's best friend Taylor is usually in the spotlight at home, and now that Berry is in the spotlight, the two are having growing pains. Spencer previously co-starred with Andie MacDowell in the indie film Good Girl Jane.
Nicole will be Berry's mentor at her debut ball, where she will take Berry under her wing as her "big sister." She also dated Conrad last summer and still has feelings for him. Madison previously appeared in the Prime Video film "Emergency," "The First Wives Club," "The Wonder Years," and the "Teenage Bounty Hunters" series (which passed away too soon).
Shayla is one of the debutantes, a fun fashionista who becomes friends with Berry and has a complicated relationship with Steven. Mills is also making her professional debut with TSITP. According to her LinkedIn (opens in new tab), the young star worked as a children's model and is currently a neuroscience major at Columbia University in New York.
Berry and Sean's mother Laurel, a writer and childhood best friend of Beck Fisher, divorced the children's father two years ago and is a single mother. Chung began her career with short films and guest appearances in series such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19," and also starred in the 2015 film "Someone Else."
Conrad and Jere's mother, Beck, sees Berry as the daughter she never had and she inspires the teen to make her debut. Blanchard is a Canadian actress who has appeared in several shows, including the first season of FX's Fargo, the British series Peep Show, and the 90s classic Are You Afraid of the Dark. He also appeared as Cher Horowitz in the TV version of Clueless.
Cleveland is an entirely new character for the show, a successful author who is spending the summer in Cousins writing his next book. He becomes friends with Laurel and teaches Conrad to sail (his new book is about sailing). Narciso has had recurring roles in "Manifesto," "HOMELAND," Marvel's "Jessica Jones," and "House of Cards."
