Meghan Markle rejected requests from both the Queen and Prince Charles to get back together with estranged father Thomas Markle, book claims.

[Both Meghan and Prince Charles say they strongly encouraged Meghan to reconcile with her estranged father: Both Meghan and Prince Charles strongly encouraged Meghan Markle to reconcile with her estranged father, Thomas Markle, and Prince Charles in particular refused to do so. The Mirror reported that Meghan was "exasperated" by his refusal.

For those who may not remember - and who could forget - Thomas Markle made quite a few headlines for Harry and Meghan's May 2018 wedding, culminating in his not attending due to health issues. (After all, Meghan walked halfway down the aisle and Prince Charles escorted her.) In the summer of 2018, Thomas participated in several interviews, speaking candidly and sometimes critically about Harry, Meghan, and the royal family. In one interview, Thomas said he was completely cut off, according to the Independent: "I used to have the phone and email numbers of her personal entourage at the palace, but after a few critical words about the royal family turning on Princess Meghan, they cut me off," he said He added, "Perhaps it would be easier for Queen Meghan if I were dead."

In July 2018, two months after the wedding, The Independent reported that "Prince Charles also claimed to have grown frustrated with Princess Meghan," citing Bower's statement that "he never really understood her or what she wanted." That same month, the Mirror reported that "Prince Charles' frustration had reached a boiling point and he is reported to have complained to his youngest son about the situation."

Harry explained to his father that "Meghan did not call or text her father because she suspected they were in danger," to which Charles responded, "Can't she go and see him and make this stop?" He said. The magazine reported that "Charles is said to have 'blamed' Harry," and Bower wrote that "the inconsistency of Meghan's excuses irritated not only Charles but probably the Queen as well."

Charles and the Queen urged Princess Meghan to go directly to her father in Mexico (where he resided), but she refused, reportedly to the dismay of the two senior royals. According to Bower's book and the Mirror, Princess Meghan "discreetly flew to Mexico and arrived unannounced on his doorstep at the location and residence of a small border town I (had never visited or known) ...... Somehow, it was totally unrealistic to hope to speak privately with my father without causing media frenzy and intrusion, which could have brought further embarrassment to the royal family," he claimed. [It was four years ago this month that Prince Charles and the Queen sought reconciliation, and at least publicly, Meghan and her father have yet to resolve the issue.
